Finally stopping........

Hi sweet-peas.....

Do you have one of those places that you drive past hundreds of times and you say 'I must stop there one day'?
Well the other day we stopped.......
This old sod cottage is on State Highway 1 on the way to Balclutha, its so cute nestled into some gnarly  big macrocarpa trees. Its open to the public to just pop on in.
So we did.........set out as it would have been in the 1800's with all the essential vintage pieces, giving you a peek into how simple life was back then.....hmmm no wardrobe???
I so wanted to play house and clean up all the yucky cluster flies on everything.
Alas my magic powers to walk through the protective cage was not working.
Pleased we finally stopped.

Love V

  2. Stopping at those sort of place is always so worth it. I not to procrastinate it too much like I do everything else in my life. I adore your dress too, the colours are gorgeous and the fit is amazing with that long circle skirt!

  3. I grew up not far from there and my great-grandparents lived just up the road in Hillend around the turn of the century, so that cottage is very special to me. I remember when it opened to the public in the 1970s.

  4. Is it sod or cob cottage? It is a cutie, as are you Vanessa. The cluster flies have driven me crazy this year.....I am so over them.

  5. Haha I love the name old sod cottage, I like to think of a grouchy old man living there being a 'grumpy old sod'as we would say in the U.K.

  10. That's a beautiful little cottage, like something you would find in Ireland. It's always amazing to see how people lived, with so few possessions and comforts.

That dress is beautiful. You have a winning wardrobe! xxxx

It's a total sweetie, that cottage, but bugger living that way! Good old days, I'm sure, but a little techonology makes life that much easier!
    Adoring that frock, darling! XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  17. isn't it wonderful when you discover somewhere near to you? I had to look up what a sod cottage is! The equivalent over here is a Drovers cottage I think. I love your rose dress - green and pink together are my favourite combination! xxxx

  19. Great photos, what a beautifully atmospheric place. Though I have to say the simple life doesn't appeal - I like a creature comfort or two, and need space for my frocks! Speaking of which - yours is an absolute beauty! xxxx

  21. That's the wonderful thing about NZ. There are magical pockets of joy to be found in the oddest places ... buildings like these, in remote and beautiful places are rarely found anywhere else. *sigh* I feel an NZ twitch coming on. You are as beautiful as ever my darling Vanessa. Big hugs to you. xoxoxooxoxox
