Is there MUSHROOM in your basket..........

Hi my little mushrooms(sweet-peas).......

I was talking to our lovely neighbours, Vicki and Bill at the letterbox the other day when they told me they had a paddock filled with
field- mushrooms.......
"If you want some just pop up and help yourself"
Do I what.......
Oh oh.....I was so excited.....I rushed inside grabbed a basket, put on my gumboots and collected some peppers and tomatoes to trade, kissed Warren goodbye, then ran down the road.
It was so much fun......I skipped all the way home grinning and swinging my basket like I was a five year old.
We cooked them up that night and they were so yummy.

Now the wee pinafore I am wearing was a find on the $2 racks at Toffs in Dunedin. It was down to my feet and had overall type buckles to attach the straps.
Out came the sewing-machine to shorten it and then replace the buckles with some cute fabric covered buttons with embroidery flowers. There you have it a perfect around the house/paddock, work pinafore all for $2 and a bit of time to "make it work".

Love V

  2. I can smell and taste those lovely mushies from here!
I haven't had a proper mushroom since I was a kid. We used to have the best family picnic/mushie hunts when I was little. Mushrooms from the shops (even the ones that are meant to be 'real' just don't taste the same...)
I love your pinnie. Have you seen the clothes from here?

  4. That's what I call neighbourly behaviour! Where my ex used to live there were fields all around with mushrooms growing in. We used to get up at the crack of dawn to go and collect them and then come home and have them cooked in butter for breakfast. Just gorgeous. They actually freeze really well too, which is a surprise.

I love your amended pinafore dress, it is such a good look for doing the chores in, but most of all I love your lifestyle! xxxx

  11. Nobody rocks a pinafore like you, Vanessa! What a great make-over, you look altogether adorable.
Lots of lovely mushrooms - I would have been skipping for joy too! My kids hate them with a passion but I insist on using them frequently, I'm hoping to wear down their resistance in time! xxxx

  13. What a wonderful mushroom forage - far more than I have been able to muster at a picking this year. I seem to have found my way back to commenting via Internet Explorer instead of Google Chrome. It's been lovely following you setting up in your new home and that photo of it in the misty vale is very atmospheric.

  18. Dear Vanessa, you're looking so good all in blue. You did a good job by changing this pinafore. The buttons are very cute. Did you knit the scarf yourself? It looks rather cosy. For some years I've wanted to go mushroom picking cause when I was a child we did that often with my family. But unfortunately I forgot everything what I knew about mushrooms. So at the moment I'm looking for someone who can teach me the most important things cause I want to go mushroom picking in autumn again.
